Project 219 keeps Louisiana Legislators lifted up in prayer

Nineteenth-century preacher Adoniram Judson Gordon said, “The greatest thing anyone can do for God and man is to pray. It is not the only thing, but it is the chief thing.”

Project 219, named after the room in Washington D.C. where elected representatives of both parties gather to pray, links participants to a Louisiana Senator or Representative for prayer. Volunteers will receive weekly prayer updates.

“The Bible instructs us to pray for our leaders,” said Dr. Lloyd Harsch, Institute for Faith and the Public Square director, referencing 1 Timothy 2:1-2. “Our elected officials need, and many want, our prayers.”

The nationwide Project 219 movement began after Congressman J. Randy Forbes, Virginia, gathered a small group from the U.S. House of Representatives at the Capitol in 2005 to pray. The meetings, dubbed the “Congressional Prayer Caucus,” continue as elected officials gather weekly to ask for God’s guidance and wisdom.

Volunteers will be asked to contact the assigned legislator and ask for prayer requests, then commit to praying for those requests.

Project 219 is an apolitical, non-partisan ministry.

”Join others from around the state in praying for the men and women who have been entrusted with the responsibility of making the laws under which we all live,” Harsch urged.
