Bio

Dr. Craig Garrett serves as Professor of Counseling. He has experience in both ministry-based and professional counseling settings, including as a Christian counselor in a church-based clinic and as a hospice chaplain. Dr. Garrett has a particular interest in preparing those called to all kinds of ministry to be effective counselors in their specific ministry settings. He has presented in numerous professional training conferences on topics ranging from the health and wellness of ministers to community and church interventions for anxiety to counseling ethics. He teaches regularly in the areas of counseling in ministry settings, psychopathology, counseling ethics, and counselor leadership and advocacy. Dr. Garrett also leads the Counseling Division as Divisional Associate Dean. He is originally from Texas, a graduate of Texas A&M University, Lamar University, and the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He and his wife, Phyllis, have five children and became New Orleanians in 2006.
